Turkish Scrap import market remains eerily quiet in early February

ANKARA (Scrap Register): The Turkish scrap import market has been eerily quiet in early February, with trade coming to a standstill, as per the latest reports from the Steel Index.

Mills are reporting tepid demand for finished steel in both domestic and export markets. Meanwhile, suppliers have been unwilling to sell at the level that mills are demanding thus far.

It should also be noted that this buying behavior, where mills buy on mass in the space of a week and then drop away from the market for an extended period, has become commonplace in recent months.

Things could change once the US domestic scrap market settles, with export yards in the country reportedly shifting high tonnages inland where better prices are on offer once freight is added.
