PetSmart Canada; Halo, Purely for Pets and Freekibble.com Spread Love to Vancouver Homeless Pets

TAMPA, FL--(Marketwired - February 10, 2016) - February is the month of love and what better way to love homeless pets than to feed them nourishing, healthy food?

During February 1-14, Halo Purely for Pets, in partnership with Freekibble.com and GreaterGood.org, is hosting the fifth annual Kibble Drop. The 2016 Kibble Drop "14 Days of Rescue Love" tour will make stops across North America, delivering a total of more than 400,000 bowls of healthy, nutritious Valentine's Day love to shelters and rescues.

At each Kibble Drop location, shelters and rescues will receive a food donation on behalf of Freekibble.com visitors and PetSmart Canada's Halo customers, who make the Kibble Drop possible simply by playing Freekibble.com or by purchasing Halo pet food.

On February 11, 2016, PetSmart Canada is celebrating the event at its North Vancouver store, where local organizations will pick up their donations totaling more than 90,000 bowls of nutritious Halo food.

"At PetSmart, we're committed to helping all homeless pets find a loving, forever home," said John DeFranco, president of PetSmart Canada. "We actively work with our partners and suppliers to ensure our shelters are well-supplied and our animals are well-fed as they await their future family."

Organizations in Vancouver receiving food include: Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA); Senior Animals in Need Today Society (SAINTS); Surrey Animal Resource Centre; Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS); and Dhana Metta Animal Rescue Society.

After the people who adopt them, what pets love most is real meat. Shelter pets receiving these donations will dine on Halo's new Freeze-Dried kiblets and Halo Spot's Stew dry food, using only real meats, like cage-free chicken, wild-caught salmon and New Zealand Lamb - without any rendered animal feed products like chicken meal or by-product meal.

"Our customers show their pets love by feeding them Halo," said David Yaskulka, VP, marketing communications, at Halo. "It's exciting to partner with our retailers to show the same love to pets in need across North America."

Since 2008, Freekibble.com has donated 16.3 million bowls of food to shelters and rescues. As Freekibble.com's official pet food sponsor since 2010, Halo donates the kibble distributed to shelters and rescues throughout the U.S. and Canada.

"It makes me happy to know we're feeding so many homeless dogs and cats Halo pet food. It's the best and I know it makes a big difference in their quality of life while they wait for their forever homes," said Mimi Ausland, Freekibble.com founder.

The annual Kibble Drops provide homeless pets the highest quality food possible, helping shelter pets look and feel their best, and find their forever homes. In fact, in a recent survey

of 85 shelter professionals, 75 percent said the quality of Halo pet food "definitely helps" dogs and cats to get adopted.

"High quality food is critically important for shelter pets because it impacts their overall health," affirmed GreaterGood.org Executive Director, Liz Baker. "A well-nourished pet is a happy pet!"
