Global refined Zinc metal deficit at 112000 tons

LONDON (Scrap Register): A shortfall in refined Zinc metal was seen in the global market, as during the initial four months of this year deficit was seen at 112000 mt against 115000 mt during the same period last year, as per International Lead and Zinc Study Group.

An increase in global demand of refined zinc metal of 3.7 percent to 4.0606 million mt during January-April was on the back of 42.9 percent recovery in apparent usage in the US, while usage fell in China by 0.7 percent and in Europe by percent.

During the period, refined zinc metal output in France, India and Kazakhstan has increased and it was partially balanced by the reductions in Canada, Peru and the Republic of Korea, which resulted in a global rise about 4.94 million mt, an increase of 1.6 percent.

China imported a total of 385000 mt of zinc contained in zinc concentrates in January-April, an increase of 58000 mt compared to the same period in 2016, but Chinese net imports of refined zinc metal fell 114000 mt year on year to 99,000 mt.
