PepsiCo to help Maharashtra in Recycling PET bottles
MUMBAI (Scrap Register): PepsiCo India declared its plan to help the government’s implementation of extended producer responsibility for PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic waste bottles in Maharashtra.
PepsiCo India has partnered with Gem Enviro Management to set up reverse vending machines for the collection and recycling of plastic bottles in the State. The programme will also ensure effective recycling of the PET waste collected.
PepsiCo India is also in talks with the Indian Beverage Association to set up a forum for industry players to work towards the goal of plastic waste management and reduction. The company said that it was also scaling up the format of non-returnable glass bottles.
As part of efforts to increase recycling, the company has also successfully piloted a ‘Film to Fuel’ project at its Pune plant to convert all the packaging film waste from the plant into fuel.
