Argentine Crude Steel production falls 30.7% in March
BUENOS AIRES (Scrap Register): Argentine crude steel production reached 328200 tonnes in March, down 30.7% compared to the same month last year and up 3.1% month-on-month, according to latest data from the Argentine Steel Chamber (CAA).
Production of hot rolled products was 425,900 tonnes in March, down 7.2% year-on-year, but a rise of 86.8% per month.
Primary iron production totaled 307,900 tonnes and was 16.8% lower than that of March 2018, but 13.9% higher than a month earlier.
The production of cold rolled flat, in turn, was 96,800 tonnes, down 8.3% year-on-year but up 116.2% from a month earlier.
CAA commented that steel mills voluntarily opted for maintenance shutdowns last month due to low demand that caused the fall of production during the month; however, the chamber indicated that there were more applications for construction permits, which meant that there would be greater activity in the construction sector in short term.
