WASHINGTON (Scrap Register): The United States domestic raw steel production was 1,892,000 net tons in the week ending on May 25, 2019, while the capability utilization rate was 81.3 percent, according to the latest data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Production was 1,808,000 net tons in the week ending May 25, 2018 while the capability utilization then was 77.1 percent. The current week production represents a 4.6 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
Production for the week ending May 25, 2019 is down 0.4 percent from the previous week ending May 18, 2019 when production was 1,900,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 81.6 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through May 25, 2019 was 39,417,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 81.8 percent. That is up 6.4 percent from the 37,033,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.6 percent.
Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending May 25, 2019 in thousands of net tons: North East: 192; Great Lakes: 727; Midwest: 207; Southern: 692 and Western: 74 for a total of 1892.
