WASHINGTON (Scrap Register): The US exports of aluminium scrap reached 165,000 tonnes in August 2019, up 8.55% month-on-month. Exports registered an increase after three straight months of decline, according to the latest report from the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The US exported 1.26 million tonnes of aluminium scrap in the first eight months of 2019.
China, Malaysia, and India were the top three aluminium scrap importers from the US in August. The three countries together imported about 76,900 tonnes of scrap from the US.
China imported 26,500 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US in August, a decrease of 15.34% from 31,300 tonnes imported in July. In the first eight months of this year, total imports were 281,000 tonnes.
Malaysia’s imports of aluminium scrap from the US totalled 25,800 tonnes in August, a 30.3% month-on-month increase. Imports were 19,800 tonnes in July. Malaysia imported 145,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap in January-August.
India’s aluminium scrap imports in August increased by 14.95% to 24,600 tonnes from July. Imports from the US in the first eight months of 2019 stood at 175,000 tonnes.
